What John Saw - Revelations
The most important thing to remember about Revelations is that it is a vision John saw of the future. Think about the time John lived; Oxen drawn carts on dirt roads, crudely sewn garments that tied with a rope, water in clay jars. Now image you are there in those times and someone shows you an Ipod, an airplane, a tank, an Apache helicopter, a TV, a cell phone. Let your mind flash back and forth between the times. Most people believe the visions of John are symbolic. But what I've learned is that the Bible works on many levels; Literal, symbolic and spiritual. What if, on a literal level, Johns visions are a 1st century's man attempt to describe 21st century technology?
- "And I saw a beast coming out of the sea. He had ten horns and seven heads, with ten crowns on his horns, and on each head a blasphemous name. 2The beast I saw resembled a leopard, but had feet like those of a bear and a mouth like that of a lion." (Revelations 13:1)
Look at that picture and image yourself a person living in Johns time. How would you describe that vechicle? Remember, this is in the time of oxen carts and bows and arrows. Maybe John saw an LCAC and that's his "beast of the sea" in Rev. 13:1. The skirts are big and wide and could be like the paws of a bear. Could the exhaust stacks be the horns? And what about the mouth of a lion? The front and back of the craft open up and drop down, something similiar to that of a lion's mouth. Yes, I know there are not 10 horns and 10 crowns on an LCAC, but maybe he saw 5 of them and they moved as one? Maybe that's the symbolic part of Revelations. I'm just talking about "What vision did John see?"
Recall the vision John saw wasn't a still photograph. It had movement and sound, maybe other senses. Seeing this craft in action, how would you describe it to someone who has never seen a car, plane, train, or any mechanized device? An LCAC is very fast across the water and the Leopard is one of the few cats that frequently transverses water skillfully.
"The beast I saw resembled a leopard, but had feet like those of a bear and a mouth like that of a lion."
For someone who had never seen camouflage before, the phrase "resembled a leopard" is not unreasonable.
